Church History
The First Baptist Church of Fairfield was organized as the Macedonia Baptist Church in 1906 at the home of Brother General Richardson located on the corner of 62nd Street and Ave. D. Shortly after a lot was purchased at the corner of 59th Street and Ave. and a small church was built. On July 16,1935 the name of the church was changed from Macedonia Baptist Church to First Baptist Church. The membership grew to more than two-thousand. A larger edifice was erected and later an Educational Building was added to the church. In 1963 the church purchased two lots located next to the church for parking purposes. In April 1973,the congregation moved out of the old edifice and held church services at Robinson Elementary School for twenty-three months.
On March 17,1975 the congregation entered the present edifice. From 1990 to the present day First Baptist Church Fairfield has achieved various renovation upgrades and financial accomplishments. The church mortgage was paid off in 1993. An elevator was installed providing access to all three floors, the church now occupies the building at the corner of 60th street and Ave. D. as its Ministry and Outreach Building. In 2008 the church donated seven thousand dollars to build a church and dig a well for fresh water in Africa. It has continued its Foreign Mission Board and thousands of dollars are used annually to help members and the community with their utility bills, rent/house payments, medications purchased, and other needs brought to the attention of Relief Committee. In 2013 the church was financially able to refurbish the sanctuary. In 2021, the church was able to remodel the upstairs church bathrooms, not only to modernize and beautify them but to make them handicap accessible.
