Our Pastor

Victor Sinclair Lewis Sr.

In March 2023, Rev. Victor Sinclair Lewis, Sr. became the ninth pastor of First Baptist Church of Fairfield, AL.  Rev. Lewis preached his first sermon at the age of 13 and was ordained at the age of 21.  

He preached a sermon at First Baptist Church of Fairfield when he was in his teens.  More than 25 years after his sermon at First Baptist Church of Fairfield, God called him to be pastor here. God is amazing!

He is the former pastor of Rushing Spring Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL; 32nd Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL; Friendship Baptist Church, Merced, CA; and Peoples Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL.  He served as the Founding Pastor of The Church of Encouragement in Montgomery, AL.

Pastor Lewis has been blessed to preach throughout the United States of America and taught classes in both National Baptist Convention of America and National Baptist Convention, USA Inc.

Rev. Lewis is an academically trained preacher of The Word of God, who earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Miles College in Fairfield, AL, and a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Leadership and Biblical Counseling from the Birmingham Theological Seminary in Birmingham, AL. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Ministry and Biblical Studies from Selma University in Selma, AL. He has a Doctorate in Christian Education from Andersonville Theological Seminary in Camilla, GA. He is a doctoral candidate in Pastoral Ministry at Birmingham Theological Seminary with a praxis thesis that addresses Spiritual Care Formation in the Black Church.

Other extended training includes: W.H.W. Preaching Institute in Los Angeles CA; Beeson Divinity Pastors School, Ember to the Flame Church Leadership PCA, Pastor and Leadership Conference; and Ph.D. work at Trinity Theological Seminary New Burg, IN.

Rev. Lewis is a Board-Certified Chaplain (BCC) by the National Association of Professional Chaplains.  He is currently a Staff Chaplain at Shelby Medical Center, a part-time Chaplain at Grandview Medical Center, and has worked as a Hospice Clinical Chaplain.  

Rev. Lewis has written and taught several classes on Pastoral Care Ministry and trained chaplains throughout Alabama. Pastor Lewis has written several preaching articles for national magazines and provided commentaries to various Christian books.

He has been the Past Secretary of the Mission and Evangelism Division of the Alabama Baptist State Convention; Late Night Chairman of Alabama Missionary Baptist State Convention 2013-2019; Dean of Congress Springhill Missionary Baptist District Association in Montgomery, AL. a member of the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist District Association Birmingham, AL. and a member of The Church Planters Association with Southern Baptist Convention. 

He is an active member of PICO National Network of Church and Community; the NAACP; Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity; and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity (Alpha Upsilon Lambda Chapter Montgomery, AL).

He is married to the former Tamara L. Hines.  She has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and  Master’s in Accounting from the University of Phoenix. Tamara is a Senior Account Manager for Shelby County and serves on many boards throughout Shelby and Jefferson County. 

They are both the proud parents of two boys, Victor Sinclair Lewis, Jr., and Charles Singleton Lewis.
